The aspects and impacts assessment is where ISO 14001 actually gets assessed. It has to show you know how your activities touch the environment, which of those interactions matter, and why. Most attempts are made once, from a template, by someone with an afternoon spare, and end up as a generic list that could describe any business - which tells an auditor precisely that nobody looked.
