Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy Template
An equal opportunities and diversity policy template committing to a working environment where employees can realise their full potential, and to identifying and eliminating discriminatory practices. It is also written to serve as the organisation's Fairness, Inclusion and Respect (FIR) policy.
The policy has Approved By and Date Approved fields and carries a Public information classification, so it can be shared with workers, clients and other interested parties.
What the Equal Opportunities Policy Covers
- Discrimination - no discrimination against employees or job applicants, direct or indirect, by perception or association, or by harassment or victimisation, on any of the protected characteristics
- Employment - recruitment and selection, training, promotion, terms and conditions, grievance and disciplinary procedures, and selection for redundancy
- Fairness, inclusion and respect - treating others fairly and with respect, valuing difference, and challenging or reporting behaviour that excludes or demeans anyone
- Responsibilities - overall responsibility at the top of the organisation, managers and supervisors, and all workers
- Embedding the policy - induction, toolbox talks and training with attendance recorded, inclusive recruitment, objective decisions on training, promotion and pay, reasonable adjustments, and assessing the risk of discrimination
- Harassment - all reasonable steps to prevent harassment, including sexual harassment, by colleagues or third parties
- Sub-contractors - made aware of the policy and expected to apply the same standards in their own recruitment, training and promotion
- Monitoring and review - effectiveness reviewed at least once a year at management review, using complaints, recruitment and promotion outcomes, training records and feedback
Written for the Common Assessment Standard
The Fairness, Inclusion and Respect sections cover the points the Common Assessment Standard (CAS) question set asks for, including guidance to sub-contractors on recruitment, training and promotion and a periodic review of effectiveness.
