Each hazard includes an inherent risk rating ranging from Moderate to Substantial, and a comprehensive listing of applicable control measures covering areas such as;

  • Valid driving licence checked before authorisation; seatbelts worn; mobile phones not used while driving
  • Journey planning with rest breaks for journeys over 2 hours; fatigue policy communicated and enforced
  • Maximum daily driving hours enforced; minimum 15-minute break every 2 hours
  • Pre-use vehicle checks; planned preventive maintenance; valid MOT, tax and insurance
  • Weather forecasts checked before long journeys; non-essential journeys postponed in severe conditions

A residual risk rating is then assigned to each hazard, demonstrating how effective risk management reduces overall risk to a tolerable level.
