Lone Working and Violence Policy Template
A lone working and violence policy template setting out how the risks from lone working and from violence and aggression at work are assessed and reduced, with guidance for workers on both.
The policy has Approved By and Date Approved fields and carries a Public information classification, so it can be shared with workers, clients and other interested parties.
What the Lone Working and Violence Policy Covers
- Avoiding lone working - avoided where the risk cannot be controlled, and only done where the work is risk assessed as suitable and the manager is informed
- Communication - a working means of communication when away from the premises, planned movements and check-in arrangements, and a plan for a missed check-in
- Emergencies - lone workers familiar with emergency procedures and emergency equipment
- Health and higher-risk tasks - no lone working where a medical condition or mobility issue makes it unsafe, and no manual handling or other higher-risk activities when alone
- Violence and aggression - all reasonably practicable measures to protect staff, and situations with potential for aggression reported
- Dealing with aggressive behaviour - defusing the situation, avoiding escalation, finding an exit, staying calm, involving the manager, and moving to safety and calling the police if in immediate danger
- Recording incidents - all incidents recorded and investigated, with management deciding whether they must be reported to the enforcing authority
- Training - additional training and support for workers likely to be exposed to aggressive behaviour
Using the Policy
Add your company name and logo, check each commitment matches what your organisation does and edit any that do not, then approve and date the policy and share it with workers and anyone else who needs to see it.
