Factory Production Control Audit Checklist Template - BS EN 1090
A process audit checklist for auditing Factory Production Control (FPC) and the Welding Quality Management System (WQMS) for BS EN 1090 compliance, as needed for UKCA and CE marking of structural steel. It is set out on the F-Q2A Audit Checklist format, with the scope, criteria, site, participants, auditor and date recorded at the top, and each question alongside the auditee and the evidence viewed, response and findings.
Questions Covered
- Whether FPC is documented and fully implemented, and the execution class worked to
- The competence of operatives working on a project, and the standards that apply to the FPC
- Calibration and inspection of equipment
- Management and purchasing of welding consumables and parent materials
- Contract review, and who is responsible for technical review
- The weld procedure specifications (WPS) prepared, and who is responsible for them
- How welder qualification is managed
- Work planning and allocation, weld sequencing, and how work instructions and specifications are issued
- How problems in operations are managed, and the records completed for the work done
- How completed work is approved and signed off, and whether inspection records, sign-offs and welding records are kept
- How welding repairs are managed
- Welding quality checks, including temperature checks, testing, pre-weld and dimension checks, and traceability of welds and components
Carrying Out the Audit
Pick a recent job and follow it through: the contract review, the materials and consumables used, the weld procedure specifications and welder qualifications that applied, and the inspection and sign-off records at the end. Checking that a weld or component can be traced back to the welder, the procedure and the material certificate tests the system as a whole.
Planning the Audit
Have the FPC documentation, weld procedure specifications, welder qualification records and calibration records to hand, along with the job file for the work being sampled, and plan time on the shop floor.
Included in the ISO Toolkits
This checklist is part of the ISO 9001 Toolkit and is also included in the ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 toolkits, including the integrated toolkits that combine them. It is also part of the BS EN 1090 Toolkit for Factory Production Control.

Part of the Process Audit Checklists
This is one of the alphaZ process audit checklists, each covering a single area of the management system, so audits can be spread across the year using the ER11 Audit Schedule. The completed checklist becomes the record of the audit, and the results can be written up using the F-Q31 Audit Report.
Using the Findings
Gaps in traceability, lapsed welder qualifications or out of date procedures are raised as actions and closed before the next notified body visit.
