Safe Driving Training Talk
A training talk on safe driving for staff who drive for work - vehicle checks before each journey, staying in control on the road and what to do after an accident. The download gives you a one-page attendance record with the talk description already filled in, plus the full guidance document to run the talk from.
Two Files in One Download
- TT-1-01 Safe Driving - the attendance record, with the topic and talk description ready to use and a signature line for each attendee
- GG-1-01 Safe Driving, P-9 Driving Policy - the guidance document the talk is based on, to prepare from and to issue to staff afterwards
Talk Description
- Checking the vehicle is roadworthy before every journey - tyres, lights, brakes, mirrors and loads
- Check sheets, defect reporting and emergency equipment
- Staying in control - speed limits, no alcohol or drugs, and considerate driving
- Medical conditions, medication and eyesight that can affect driving
- Preventing fatigue, and no hand-held phones or devices while driving
- What to do and who to tell after an accident or incident
Running the Talk
Read through the guidance beforehand, talk the points through with the team, then have everyone sign the record. Keep the signed record as evidence that the briefing took place and who received it.
Why Fatigue and Phones Are Covered
Tiredness and hand-held phones are easy habits to slip into on a long working day, and both take attention off the road. The talk gives them their own point so staff hear the company position clearly and know it applies to every journey.
Adapting the Talk
Both files are fully editable, so add your own vehicle check sheet, the emergency equipment carried in your vehicles and the person drivers should call after an accident. Update the talk description if you cover extra points.
Keeping the Training Record
File the signed record with your training records, or log the talk against each attendee in a training matrix, so you can show who has been briefed and when.
Who Is It For?
Anyone who drives for work, whether in a company vehicle or their own car. It suits induction, a regular refresher and any time after a driving incident or a change to your driving rules.
