Most fires that hurt people come down to basics being missed - an extinguisher out of date, a blocked escape route, no one trained to get people out. This checklist walks you round those basics so the gaps show up before they matter.

Fire Safety Inspection Template

A fire safety inspection checklist for a routine walk-round of your premises - confirming extinguishers, alarms, signage, escape routes, marshals and training are all in order, and recording anything that needs action. One completed form per inspection gives you a dated record that the fire basics were checked.

It supports the operational control and emergency preparedness requirements of ISO 45001 and helps evidence the fire safety duties under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Built for Fire Safety Compliance and ISO 45001

The checklist covers the practical checks a routine fire safety inspection should confirm:

  • Fire extinguishers - present, the correct type and size, in date and unobstructed
  • Fire alarms and call points - visible, tested and working
  • Escape routes, fire safety signage and emergency procedures displayed
  • Fire marshals appointed and staff trained in emergency procedures

What's Included in this Fire Safety Inspection

The form is a walk-round checklist with a header and a Satisfactory? / Notes column against each item:

  • Header - the location, who completed the inspection and the date
  • Housekeeping - combustibles and waste being removed
  • Fire and emergency procedures - displayed and available
  • Fire extinguishers - locations signed, in the correct positions, checked within 12 months, the correct type and size, and unobstructed
  • Fire alarms - call points visible, alarms tested, evacuations completed
  • People - fire marshals appointed and staff trained in emergency procedures
  • Satisfactory? and Notes / actions - recorded against every item
