Remote Working Policy Template
A remote working policy template offering regular or occasional remote working to help workers and to improve environmental performance and efficiency, with the principles and guidance that apply.
The policy has Approved By and Date Approved fields and carries a Public information classification, so it can be shared with workers, clients and other interested parties.
What the Remote Working Policy Covers
- Working environment - a suitable environment and equipment, and arrangements to avoid distractions, including care for dependants
- Assessment first - a risk assessment and remote working checklist before remote working starts
- IT equipment and communications - equipment checked and approved before connecting, and adequate communications
- Remote access - a list of authorisations reviewed, and equipment returned and accounts closed when no longer needed
- Health and safety - safe working procedures, display screen equipment assessments, and risk assessment of the location
- Insurance - adequate insurance, and equipment provided fully insured
- Changes - reporting changes that could affect working safely or without distraction
- Information security - remote access only with adequate controls, clear desk and screen, secure passwords and information transfer rules
- Incidents - loss or theft of equipment or information reported immediately
Checked Against Cyber Essentials
The IT policies in the range have been checked against the Cyber Essentials requirements, so their rules on passwords, devices, access and updates do not contradict what a Cyber Essentials assessment asks for.
Using the Policy
Add your company name and logo, check each commitment matches what your organisation does and edit any that do not, then approve and date the policy and share it with workers and anyone else who needs to see it.
Who Needs a Remote Working Policy?
Organisations whose workers work from home or other locations, regularly or occasionally.
Included in the FORS Toolkit
This policy is part of the FORS Toolkit, alongside policies such as the P-3 Health and Safety Policy, P-7 Drug and Alcohol Abuse Policy and P-34 Business Continuity Policy Statement.
Works with the Remote Working Procedure
The PP-1-21 Remote Working Policy Procedure sets out the procedure, the F-Q72 Home Working Checklist and RA-BR10 Remote and Hybrid Working risk assessment support the assessment before remote working starts, and the PP-8-100 Information Security Policy Procedure includes a Remote Working Policy section.
Document Control
The footer carries the policy number and title, information classification, version and page numbers, and the approval fields record who approved the policy and when, so it can be controlled with the rest of your management system documents and listed on a document register such as the F-IMS20 Document Register.
