Energy Policy Template
An energy policy template committing to reduce energy use, manage it through the management system, and continually improve both energy performance and the system that manages it.
The policy has Approved By and Date Approved fields and carries a Public information classification, so it can be shared with workers, clients and other interested parties.
What the Energy Policy Covers
- Commitment - reducing energy use and continual improvement of energy performance
- Resources - the information and resources needed for the system to operate effectively
- Compliance - legal and other requirements on energy efficiency, energy use and energy consumption
- Energy review - periodic review using Energy Performance Indicators (EnPIs) and consumption data to find improvements
- Cost and environment - energy efficiency as a way to reduce long-term costs and environmental impact
- Energy suppliers - favouring value for money and green or renewable tariffs
- Procurement and design - energy performance as a key criterion when buying energy-using products and equipment, and as a design input
- Objectives and targets - set at least annually at management review, when the policy is also reviewed and approved
- Communication - shared with all workers and available to interested parties on request

Like every alphaZ policy, this is written as a public policy statement that can be shared openly with workers, customers, suppliers and assessors. The internal detail of how it is carried out belongs in your procedures.

Works with the Energy Management Procedure
The PP-6-06 Environmental Energy Management Policy Procedure sets out the procedure, the F-IMS61 Energy Review Register records the energy review, and the F-IMS62 Carbon Management Plan covers carbon reduction.
Document Control
The footer carries the policy number and title, information classification, version and page numbers, and the approval fields record who approved the policy and when, so it can be controlled with the rest of your management system documents and listed on a document register such as the F-IMS20 Document Register.
