Running the Talk
Read through the guidance beforehand, talk the points through with the team, then have everyone sign the record. Keep the signed record as evidence that the briefing took place and who received it.
Why PPE Comes After Other Controls
PPE only protects the person wearing it, and only when it is the right type, fits and is worn properly. The talk explains this first so that staff understand PPE backs up safer ways of working rather than replacing them.
Adapting the Talk
Both files are fully editable, so add the PPE issued for each task on your site, where replacements are kept and the person staff should go to when PPE is damaged or does not fit. Update the talk description if you cover extra points.
Keeping the Training Record
File the signed record with your training records, or log the talk against each attendee in a training matrix, so you can show who has been briefed and when.
Who Is It For?
Anyone who is issued with PPE, and the supervisors who check it is worn. It works at induction, when new PPE is introduced and as a refresher where PPE is not being worn or looked after properly.
