Fire Safety Training Talk
A training talk on fire safety for all staff - how fires start, keeping fuel and ignition sources apart, raising the alarm and evacuating safely. The download gives you a one-page attendance record with the talk description already filled in, plus the full guidance document to run the talk from.
Two Files in One Download
- TT-7-09 Fire Safety - the attendance record, with the topic and talk description ready to use and a signature line for each attendee
- GG-7-09 Fire Safety - the guidance document the talk is based on, to prepare from and to issue to staff afterwards
Talk Description
- How fires start, and the fire triangle
- Keeping fuel and ignition sources apart
- Raising the alarm and calling the fire service
- Fire extinguishers - where they are, and when to use one
- Evacuating promptly and calmly to the assembly point
- Never returning to the building until the emergency services say it is safe
Running the Talk
Read through the guidance beforehand, talk the points through with the team, then have everyone sign the record. Keep the signed record as evidence that the briefing took place and who received it.
Questions raised during the talk can be noted in the comments box on the record, so anything that needs following up is not lost.
Why Nobody Goes Back Into the Building
Once people are out at the assembly point, there can be a strong pull to go back for a bag, a phone or a colleague. The talk makes it clear that nobody returns until the emergency services say it is safe, so staff hear the rule before an alarm ever sounds.
Adapting the Talk
Both files are fully editable, so add the location of your assembly point, where the extinguishers and call points are, and the names of your fire wardens. Update the talk description if you cover extra points.
Keeping the Training Record
File the signed record with your training records, or log the talk against each attendee in a training matrix, so you can show who has been briefed and when.
Who Is It For?
All staff, including new starters, temporary workers and anyone who works alone or out of hours. It works at induction, as a regular refresher and after a fire drill or any change to the building or escape routes.
Included in the ISO 45001 Toolkit
This training talk is part of the ISO 45001 Toolkit, and is included in the integrated toolkits that include it.
