COSHH Assessment - Alkylate Petrol (2-Stroke Premix)
This pre-completed COSHH assessment covers ready-mixed alkylate petrol with 2-stroke oil - the cleaner-burning fuel used in chainsaws, strimmers, hedge-trimmers, blowers and similar equipment. Alkylate fuel carries lower benzene and aromatics than pump petrol, but it remains extremely flammable, its vapours are heavier than air, and swallowed fuel entering the airways can be fatal.
What Does This COSHH Assessment Cover?
The assessment is fully completed and ready to use, covering all sections required for a complete hazardous substance risk assessment:
- Substance identification - alkylate naphtha with 1–5% 2-stroke oil, SDS reference and physical state
- Health effects and first aid - vapour causing dizziness, headache and drowsiness; aspiration hazard if swallowed (do not induce vomiting); skin drying and irritation, with specific first aid for each route
- Flammability - vapours form explosive mixtures with air and collect at low level; refuelling only with the engine off and cool, using approved containers
- Workplace exposure limits - alkylate naphtha TWA 600 ppm (1800 mg/m³), with outdoor use or good ventilation and no refuelling in enclosed spaces
- CLP hazard classification - Flammable, Irritant, Environmental and Long-term health hazard pictograms
- PPE requirements - safety glasses or splash goggles (EN166), nitrile gloves (minimum 0.4 mm, changed if heavily contaminated) and S3 safety footwear
- Emergency procedures - spillage response with ignition sources removed, fire precautions (no water jet) and hazardous waste disposal
