COSHH Assessment - Mortar Plasticiser (Concentrated Admixture)
This pre-completed COSHH assessment covers concentrated liquid mortar plasticiser - an air-entraining surfactant admixture used to improve mortar workability, reduce water demand and aid frost resistance. Concentrated grades are commonly classified as corrosive (H314) and skin sensitising (H317), so decanting and dosing are the high-risk moments.
What Does This COSHH Assessment Cover?
The assessment is fully completed and ready to use, covering all sections required for a complete hazardous substance risk assessment:
- Substance identification - aqueous surfactant air-entraining admixture (alkyl polyglycol ethers, alkylbenzenesulphonates or rosin soaps), SDS reference and physical state
- Health effects and first aid - severe skin burns, serious eye damage and internal burns if swallowed, with specific first aid for each route
- Corrosive and sensitising hazard - concentrated grades burn on contact and repeated exposure may cause allergic dermatitis
- Workplace exposure limits - no specific WEL assigned; mist and splash reduced by careful decanting, closed dosing where possible and good ventilation
- CLP hazard classification - Corrosive and Long-term health hazard pictograms
- PPE requirements - chemical splash goggles (EN166 B), chemical-resistant gauntlets to EN374 (minimum 0.4 mm) and a chemical-resistant apron or coveralls for decanting and dosing
- Emergency procedures - spillage containment, keeping product out of drains, and hazardous waste disposal via a licensed contractor
