This example covers water-based grab adhesives used for internal fixing work. Low hazard in normal use, with the controls and PPE that keep it that way.
This example COSHH risk assessment has been prepared using the
F-HS5 COSHH Assessment form template - a purpose-built template designed to focus entirely on what matters: identifying the hazards of each substance, recording the controls and PPE that manage them, and confirming exposure is adequately controlled, without any unnecessary fields getting in the way.
The file is supplied in fully editable MS Word format and can be saved to Google Docs if required, with pre-defined styles throughout to match the risk ratings.
The following document labelling is included in the footer:

COSHH Assessment - Construction Adhesive (Water-Based Acrylic / Vinyl)
This pre-completed COSHH assessment covers water-based construction adhesives - one-part acrylic or vinyl polymer grab adhesives supplied in cartridges for internal fixing of skirtings, architraves, battens, cladding and mouldings. Most formulations are not classified as hazardous under CLP, making this a good example of proportionate controls for a low-hazard product.
What Does This COSHH Assessment Cover?
The assessment is fully completed and ready to use, covering all sections required for a complete hazardous substance risk assessment:
- Substance identification - one-part water-based acrylic or vinyl polymer adhesive with calcium carbonate filler, SDS reference and physical state
- Health effects and first aid - inhalation, ingestion, skin contact and eye contact, with specific first aid for each route
- Low-hazard profile - mild irritation or dryness from prolonged skin contact; sensitised persons may react to preservatives
- Workplace exposure limits - no specific WEL assigned; use in well-ventilated areas and avoid unnecessary contact
- CLP hazard classification - Irritant pictogram
- PPE requirements - safety glasses or splash goggles (EN166) and single-use nitrile gloves
- Emergency procedures - spillage containment, keeping adhesive out of drains, and curing unused material before disposal
Who Is This COSHH Assessment For?
This assessment is suitable for any workplace where water-based grab adhesives are used, including:
- Joiners and carpenters on first and second fix work
- Dry-liners and interior fit-out contractors
- Facilities management and building maintenance teams
- Shopfitting and refurbishment projects
Working From the Safety Data Sheet
The assessment reflects the hazards and controls found in typical manufacturer safety data sheets for these adhesives. Check the details against the SDS for the exact product in use, and record your own storage locations, users and site-specific controls in the relevant fields.
COSHH Compliance
This document provides ready-to-use evidence of COSHH compliance and supports occupational health and safety management. The assessment is based on the F-HS5 COSHH Assessment template, is fully editable in Microsoft Word, and can be customised with your company details, site-specific information and review dates.
