COSHH Assessment - AltroFix 19 Plus (Two-Part Polyurethane Adhesive / MDI)
This pre-completed COSHH assessment covers AltroFix 19 Plus - a two-part polyurethane flooring adhesive from Altro, supplied as pre-measured Part A and Part B for on-site mixing. Part B contains diphenylmethane-4,4′-diisocyanate (MDI), a respiratory sensitiser that can cause permanent occupational asthma, and UK REACH training is required before any diisocyanate work.
What Does This COSHH Assessment Cover?
The assessment is fully completed and ready to use, covering all sections required for a complete hazardous substance risk assessment:
- Substance identification - trade name (AltroFix 19 Plus / Altro Ltd), chemical composition (Part A containing N-ethyl-2-pyrrolidone; Part B containing MDI at 80–100%), SDS reference and physical state
- Health effects and first aid - inhalation, ingestion, skin contact and eye contact, with specific first aid for each route and no further diisocyanate work after breathing problems until medically cleared
- Respiratory sensitisation hazard - MDI can cause permanent occupational asthma; risk is highest during mixing, sanding or poor ventilation; Part A may harm fertility or the unborn child through skin absorption
- Workplace exposure limits - diisocyanates (as –NCO) TWA 0.02 mg/m³ and STEL 0.07 mg/m³, with the Sen notation and health surveillance for regular users
- UK REACH training requirement - mandatory diisocyanate training before use
- CLP hazard classification - Irritant and Long-term health hazard pictograms
- PPE requirements - including nitrile gloves (minimum 0.35 mm), splash goggles for mixing, chemical-resistant coveralls and a half-mask respirator with A1/B1 filter
- Emergency procedures - spillage response, fire precautions and hazardous waste disposal of uncured product
