Introduction to the Integrated Management System Presentation

The Introduction to the Integrated Management System presentation is a short PowerPoint training session that explains what an Integrated Management System (IMS) is and what it means for all workers. It covers the purpose of the IMS, the standards most commonly covered, what workers need to be aware of and do, and an overview of the IMS1 manual and the IMS folder.

It helps with the awareness requirements of the ISO management system standards (clause 7.3), making workers aware of the policies, their role and responsibilities, objectives and continual improvement. It also introduces the IMS folder filing system set out in IMS1 Appendix ii.

What the Presentation Covers

  • Training Objective and What an IMS Is - one management system meeting the requirements of several standards, and the purpose of the IMS
  • Standards and Setting Up an IMS - ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001 and ISO 45001, and preparing a management systems manual that takes account of existing processes and documents
  • How Does It Affect Me? - business processes, company policies, roles and responsibilities, document control, change, reporting issues and incidents, training, emergency procedures, ethical behaviour, objectives and suggestions for improvement
  • Overview of the IMS1 Manual - what IMS1 contains and the IMS registers held with it
  • The IMS Folder - the folders held centrally for review and audit evidence, access for workers, where policies, forms and completed records are filed, and paper copies

Built for Staff Awareness

  • Gives every worker the same introduction to the management system, whatever their role
  • Explains in plain terms what workers are expected to do, from following procedures to reporting problems and suggesting improvements
  • Introduces the IMS1 manual and the IMS folder, so workers know where to find policies, forms and records
  • Editable in PowerPoint, so the slides can be adapted to the organisation's own IMS

Who Needs an Introduction to the IMS?

The presentation is for managers and IMS Leads introducing an integrated management system to their workers, and for new starters at induction. It suits small and medium-sized businesses that want a quick, plain-English briefing on the IMS without going into the detail of each ISO standard.

Included in the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 Toolkits

This presentation is part of the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 toolkits, including the integrated toolkits that combine them.

Using the Presentation

Use it when the IMS is first introduced and at staff inductions, adding the organisation's own policies, registers and folder locations where helpful. Record attendance as evidence of awareness training, for example on F-Q7 Training Talk Attendance Record.

Pairs with Other IMS Training

TT-1-09 Integrated Management System (IMS) gives a short training talk on the IMS, and Introduction to ISO Audits and Certification follows on with internal audits and ISO certification. The IMS registers named in the presentation include F-IMS21 Business Continuity Register, F-IMS22 Interested Parties Register and F-IMS23 Opportunities and Risks Register.
