Included in the alphaZ subscription
Every alphaZ document and toolkit, with updates as they are released. Everything you download is yours to keep.
A simple numbered list of jobs, with the customer picked from your own list and columns for due date, completion date and invoice number.
Part of the alphaZ ER series of Excel registers, built for listings that grow and need to be sorted and filtered. Supplied in fully editable MS Excel format, with a Google Sheets version included, and set in Calibri font for improved readability.
The register is set up with:
- A customer drop-down, with the customer list editable on the Instructions sheet
- Filters on the register so jobs can be sorted by customer, due date or completion
- A frozen header row so the column headings stay in view as the list grows

Job Register Template
A job register template in Microsoft Excel for allocating job numbers and keeping track of each job from start to invoice. A Google Sheets version is included.
Each job is given a number and a line in the register, with the customer, a description, the due date, the completion date and the invoice number, so it is easy to see what is open, what is late and what has still to be invoiced.
What's Included in this Job Register
The workbook keeps to the register itself and an Instructions sheet:
- Job_Register - the date, customer, contact details, description, job number, due date, completion date and invoice number.
- Instructions - how to use the register and the customer list behind the drop-down.
Job Numbers and Traceability
A job number allocated at the start can be carried onto job cards, delivery notes and invoices, so paperwork for a piece of work can be traced back to it. Where traceability matters to your customers, the register is the place that number is issued and recorded. The same number can be quoted on orders raised for the job, and the ER6 Purchase Order Register has a project or job column so materials bought in can be matched to the work.
Setting Up the Register
Enter your customers on the Instructions sheet so they can be picked from the drop-down, then start numbering jobs as they come in. The register comes with an example row so you can see the layout before you delete it.
Built for Tracking Work
- A unique job number for each piece of work
- Due and completion dates side by side, so late jobs are easy to find
- An invoice number column, so finished work still to be invoiced can be filtered out
- A customer list kept in one place, so names are entered the same way every time
- A Google Sheets version for teams who share the register online, in the office or on site
Keeping the Register Up to Date
Add each job when it is accepted, fill in the completion date when it is finished and the invoice number when it is billed. Filtering on a blank completion date gives the list of open jobs, and filtering on a blank invoice number gives the work still to invoice. Sorting by due date gives a simple plan of the work coming up.
Who Needs a Job Register?
Businesses that do not yet have a manual or electronic system for allocating job numbers and tracking work. Businesses that already manage jobs in accounts or job management software will usually not need it.
Pairs with the Job Card
Each job can be run on an F-Q57 Job Card, with changes agreed with the customer recorded on the F-Q63 Job Variation form. Enquiries and quotes that come before a job can be logged on the ER7 Enquiry Quote Register.
