• Road traffic collision involving dangerous goods — collision during transport of flammable, toxic, corrosive or explosive goods causing release of dangerous substances, fire, explosion and casualties beyond those in the primary collision
• Dangerous goods release during loading and unloading — spillage or leakage during loading, unloading or transfer between containers causing exposure to toxic, corrosive or flammable substances
• Fire involving dangerous goods vehicle — fire in the vehicle cab, engine or load causing ignition of flammable goods, explosion of pressurised containers and uncontrolled release of toxic substances
• Incompatible dangerous goods — loading of incompatible goods together causing violent reaction, toxic gas generation or fire

Each hazard includes an inherent risk rating of Substantial, and a comprehensive listing of applicable control measures covering areas such as;

• All drivers hold a valid ADR vocational training certificate for the classes of goods transported
• Vehicle equipped with required ADR equipment: fire extinguishers, spill kit, emergency information, PPE, warning triangle and chocks
• Consignment and transport documentation, MSDS and emergency action codes carried and accessible in cab
• Loading and unloading by trained personnel only; damaged or leaking containers not accepted for transport
• Fire extinguishers appropriate for goods carried mounted accessibly; drivers trained in when to fight and when to evacuate
• Chemical compatibility assessed before loading; incompatible goods segregated

A residual risk rating is then assigned to each hazard, demonstrating how effective risk management reduces overall risk to a tolerable level.
