We use this register to convert our activity data into carbon emissions and keep one continuous picture of our progress against baseline. The dashboard outputs slot straight into the Carbon Management Plan, which keeps the annual reporting cycle quick.
This register template is supplied in fully editable MS Excel format and can be easily customised and edited. The workbook uses pre-defined style formatting throughout, with all text in Calibri font for improved readability.
The following document labelling is included in the footer:
- Form number and title
- Information-classification
- Version
- Page number / total pages

Environmental Performance Register Template
A practical environmental performance register template in Microsoft Excel format, designed to help organisations capture activity data, convert it into greenhouse gas emissions, and monitor performance against baseline year on year.
Monitoring environmental performance is a core requirement of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, and the foundation for evidencing improvement against environmental objectives, evaluating compliance, and reporting credible carbon figures to customers, procurement teams and auditors.
Built for ISO 14001:2026
This register has been built to align with ISO 14001:2026, published on 15 April 2026, which strengthens the requirement for quantitative, evidence-based monitoring of environmental performance:
- Supports compliance with clause 9.1.1 Monitoring, measurement, analysis and evaluation, providing the indicators, calculation methodology and reporting dashboard the standard expects.
- Reflects the 2026 standard's emphasis on climate change as an environmental condition that organisations must consider, by structuring emissions reporting around the three-scope GHG accounting approach.
- Provides the measured performance data that underpins the environmental objectives process in clause 6.2, closing the loop between aspect identification, objective setting and performance evaluation.
What's Included in this Environmental Performance Register
The register is supplied as a blank Excel workbook with five sheets:
- Instructions - editable reporting period dates (current period, baseline period and Net Zero target year), plus the lookup lists that drive the dropdowns elsewhere in the workbook.
- Context - narrative section for documenting the boundaries of the assessment: sites and operations covered, consolidation approach, Scope 3 categories included, exclusions, conversion factors used, reduction target, data review frequency, assurance level and restatement policy.
- Metrics - the activity metrics the organisation chooses to track, with category, GHG scope, default unit and kgCO2e conversion factor for each. Supplied blank for the user to populate with the metrics relevant to their operations.
- Data Log - chronological entry of meter readings, fuel purchases, mileage, waste collections and similar activity data. The user picks a metric from a dropdown driven by the Metrics sheet and enters the value; category, GHG scope, unit and tCO2e are auto-calculated by the workbook.
- Report - single-page dashboard with the hero total tCO2e figure, breakdown tables, and four charts (Scope split, Category breakdown, Baseline vs Current, Net Zero Trajectory) ready to copy straight into the Carbon Management Plan.
Who Needs an Environmental Performance Register?
This register is suitable for any organisation operating or implementing an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System that wants a structured, repeatable way to monitor environmental performance and produce credible carbon figures. It is particularly suited to SMEs that need to respond to procurement carbon disclosure requests, supply chain net zero questionnaires, or PPN 06/21 style requirements without investing in enterprise carbon accounting software.
Included in Every ISO 14001 Toolkit
This register is included in every alphaZ documents toolkit that covers ISO 14001, from the standalone ISO 14001 Toolkit through to the fully integrated multi-standard toolkits. If you need a wider set of documents for an environmental or integrated management system, the toolkit route gives you this register plus everything else needed for compliant management system documentation, in a single download.
Sample Data Version Available with Subscription
A full sample data version of this register is included with an alphaZ subscription - a fully populated worked example showing the Metrics sheet populated with a starter set of activity metrics, the Data Log filled with a complete reporting period of entries, and the Report dashboard live with charts, scope and category breakdowns, baseline comparison and Net Zero trajectory. A useful reference for completing your own register.
Pairs with the Carbon Management Plan
The Report sheet of this register is designed to feed directly into the companion F-IMS62 Carbon Management Plan. The tables and charts in the report dashboard can be copy-pasted as images or a fully editable embedded excel objects into the Carbon Management Plan to create a comprehensive and data-backed carbon management plan which can then be exported to PDF for external reporting and sharing with 3rd parties. Total annual workflow to create this is approximately ten minutes once the data is logged.
