Opportunities and Objectives Register Template
A register for the opportunities your organisation has identified and the objectives it has set, kept together in one document. Each opportunity is given a priority rating from its feasibility and benefit, and each objective is planned with the actions and resources needed, how success is measured, who is responsible and the target date.
ISO 9001:2026 treats opportunities separately from risks, asking for them to be determined, analysed and evaluated in their own right (clause 6.1.3), and asks for quality objectives to be planned with what will be done, the resources, responsibility, timescale and how results are evaluated (clause 6.2). The register gives both a standing home outside the management review record.
Built for ISO 9001:2026
The register is laid out around what the standard asks for:
- Opportunities analysed and evaluated in their own right, with a priority rating (clause 6.1.3)
- Possible actions recorded with the resources required and the practicalities
- Objectives planned with actions, resources, responsibility, target date and how success is evaluated (clause 6.2.2)
- Objectives taken forward from opportunities sitting alongside the opportunities they came from
What's Included in this Register
- Opportunity Rating Indicator - a rating table that sets the priority of each opportunity from its feasibility and benefit
- Priority and Actions - how low, medium and high priority opportunities are taken forward
- Opportunities Register - the opportunity and expected benefit, priority rating, and possible action with resources required and practicalities
- Objectives Register - the objective, actions and additional resources, how success is measured or evaluated, responsibility and target date

Who Needs an Opportunities and Objectives Register?
Organisations working to ISO 9001 that prefer to keep opportunities and objectives in a register rather than on the management review form. It suits businesses whose objectives run through the year and are updated between reviews, and anyone who wants one place to see what was considered, what was taken forward and how it is progressing.
Included in the ISO 9001 Toolkit
This register is part of the ISO 9001 Toolkit and every alphaZ ISO toolkit that covers ISO 9001, where it is supplied as an option so you can choose where opportunities and objectives are recorded.
Choosing Where to Record Opportunities
Opportunities are identified through the SWOT and PESTLE review on the F-IMS23 Opportunities and Risks Register, and progress is looked at during management review on the F-Q3 Management Review form. Opportunities taken forward can be recorded in whichever way suits you:
- F-IMS40 Opportunities and Objectives Register - opportunities with a priority rating, and objectives, in one standing register
- F-Q40 Opportunities Tracker - a single-page tracker for the opportunities that have been agreed
- F-Q3 Management Review - the opportunities taken forward table on the management review form itself
Using the Register
Rate each opportunity as it is identified and take the higher priority ones forward as actions or objectives. Update progress on objectives between reviews, and look at the register at management review, re-dating it each time it is reviewed.
