Opportunities Tracker Template
A single-page tracker for the opportunities your organisation has agreed to take forward. Each row records the opportunity, the action agreed and any additional resources, how success will be measured or evaluated, who is responsible and the target date.
ISO 9001:2026 asks for actions to address opportunities to be planned, built into the management system and evaluated for effectiveness (clause 6.1.3), and for that effectiveness to be considered at management review (clause 9.3.2). The tracker is a simple record of those actions, used where you prefer to track opportunities outside the management review form.
Built for ISO 9001 Actions to Address Opportunities
- The action agreed for each opportunity, with any additional resources
- How the success of the action will be measured or evaluated
- Who is responsible and when it is due
What's Included in this Opportunities Tracker
One table, with a column for each part of the plan:
- Opportunity
- Action Agreed / Additional Resources Required
- How success measured / evaluated
- Responsibility and Target Date
Who Needs an Opportunities Tracker?
Organisations working to ISO 9001 that want to follow agreed opportunities through to completion without keeping a full register. It suits smaller businesses where a handful of opportunities are in progress at any one time. Because it is a single page, it can be kept with the management review record and updated as each action progresses, while organisations with many opportunities and objectives running at once may find a full register easier to manage.
Included in the ISO 9001 Toolkit
This form is part of the ISO 9001 Toolkit and every alphaZ ISO toolkit that covers ISO 9001, supplied as an option alongside the management review form.
Choosing Where to Record Opportunities
Opportunities taken forward can be recorded in whichever way suits you:
Using the Tracker
Add an opportunity once it has been agreed, usually at management review, with the action, any extra resources, who is responsible and the target date. Decide at the start how success will be judged, so there is something to check against later. Update progress between reviews, and bring the tracker to the next management review, where the effectiveness of the actions taken is reviewed and completed rows can be closed off.
Where Opportunities Come From
Opportunities can come from the SWOT and PESTLE review, customer feedback, audit findings, improvement suggestions from staff, and changes in the market or in the needs of interested parties. Ideas raised by staff can be captured on the F-Q16 Improvement Request first, and the more significant opportunities can be set as company objectives rather than tracked here.
