Business Continuity Training Talk

A training talk on business continuity for all staff - the plans and registers that cover it, who is on the emergency recovery team, and what to do and how to communicate when an incident happens. The download gives you a one-page attendance record with the talk description already filled in, plus the full guidance document to run the talk from.

Two Files in One Download

  • TT-1-05 Business Continuity - the attendance record, with the topic and talk description ready to use and a signature line for each attendee
  • GG-1-05 Business Continuity - the guidance document the talk is based on, to prepare from and to issue to staff afterwards

Talk Description

  • What business continuity is, and the registers and plans that cover it
  • Business continuity responsibilities and the emergency recovery team
  • Business critical functions and how they are reviewed
  • Types of disruptive incident, and the assumptions behind the plans
  • Business continuity plans and what to do when an incident happens
  • Communication during an incident, including when normal systems are down

Running the Talk

Read through the guidance beforehand, talk the points through with the team, then have everyone sign the record. Keep the signed record as evidence that the briefing took place and who received it.

Why Communication Gets Its Own Point

During an incident the usual email, phones or systems may not be available, which is when people most need to hear from each other. The talk covers how the team keeps in touch when normal systems are down, so staff are not left waiting for messages that cannot reach them.

Adapting the Talk

Both files are fully editable, so add the members of your emergency recovery team, your business critical functions and the backup contact arrangements you use. Update the talk description if you cover extra points.

Keeping the Training Record

File the signed record with your training records, or log the talk against each attendee in a training matrix, so you can show who has been briefed and when.

Who Is It For?

Every member of staff, and especially those on the emergency recovery team. Run it at induction, after the business continuity plans are reviewed and following an exercise or a real incident.
