COSHH Assessment — Lead (Pb — Metal Sheet, Flashing, Dust and Swarf)
This pre-completed COSHH assessment covers metallic lead (Pb) — including lead sheet, flashing, swarf and dust generated during cutting, grinding, burning or melting. Work with lead is governed by the Control of Lead at Work Regulations 2002, which requires blood lead monitoring and health surveillance.
What Does This COSHH Assessment Cover?
The assessment is fully completed and ready to use, covering all sections required for a complete hazardous substance risk assessment:
- Substance identification — trade name (Lead sheet, flashing, dust and swarf), chemical name (lead / Pb; metallic lead and lead compounds), SDS reference and physical state
- Health effects and first aid — inhalation, ingestion, skin contact and eye contact, with specific first aid for each route; all significant exposures require medical reporting
- Systemic lead poisoning and reproductive hazard — chronic lead exposure damages the nervous system, kidneys and blood; particularly dangerous for pregnant workers and those planning pregnancy; blood lead monitoring mandatory above the action level
- Workplace exposure limits — lead TWA 0.15 mg/m³ over 8 hours; action level 0.075 mg/m³; from workplace exposure limits guidance and Control of Lead at Work Regulations
- CLP hazard classification — Toxic, Environmental and Long-term health hazard pictograms
- PPE requirements — including eye protection, barrier cream, dedicated coveralls (not taken home), nitrile gloves; strict hand and face washing before breaks and end of shift
- Emergency procedures — dust and fume control; spillage collection; disposal via licensed contractor
