Occupational Health Policy Template

An occupational health and wellbeing policy template whose principal aim is the prevention of ill-health in the workplace, covering how work affects health and how health affects a worker's ability to do their work.

The policy has Approved By and Date Approved fields and carries a Public information classification, so it can be shared with workers, clients and other interested parties.

What the Occupational Health Policy Covers

  • Duty of care - safeguarding and promoting the health, safety and welfare of employees and others who work with the organisation
  • Health risks - identifying and managing health risks, and managing the work-related aspects of illness
  • Staying at or returning to work - supporting employees who are ill
  • Disability - improving work opportunities for people with disabilities, including reasonable adjustments
  • Good health - promoting good health and informed lifestyle choices
  • Health screening - medical questionnaires and medicals only after a job offer, and health surveillance where required
  • Advice and support - for managers and workers on health and work
  • Confidentiality - health and wellbeing concerns handled confidentially and sensitively, with a culture of openness

Written to Be Shared

Like every alphaZ policy, this is written as a public policy statement that can be shared openly with workers, customers, suppliers and assessors. The internal detail of how it is carried out belongs in your procedures.

Using the Policy

Add your company name and logo, check each commitment matches what your organisation does and edit any that do not, then approve and date the policy and share it with workers and anyone else who needs to see it.

Who Needs an Occupational Health Policy?

Employers that want their approach to health at work, health screening and health surveillance stated in one place.

Works with the Health and Safety Policy Procedure

The PP-7-100 Health and Safety Policy Procedure includes a section on occupational health, mental health and fatigue. Health screening can use the F-HR8 Medical Questionnaire Form, and adjustments can be requested on the F-HR11 Reasonable Adjustment Request.

Document Control

The footer carries the policy number and title, information classification, version and page numbers, and the approval fields record who approved the policy and when, so it can be controlled with the rest of your management system documents and listed on a document register such as the F-IMS20 Document Register.
