Talk Description
- Common hazards in an office
- Office layout, walkways, storage and emergency exit routes
- Trailing cables, open drawers, and bags and coats in walkways
- Checking office equipment, cables and plugs
- Keeping your work area clean and tidy, and any clear desk policy
- First aid, reporting accidents, and the display screen equipment (DSE) assessment
Running the Talk
Read through the guidance beforehand, talk the points through with the team, then have everyone sign the record. Keep the signed record as evidence that the briefing took place and who received it.
Why Clear Walkways Are Covered
Bags, boxes and trailing cables in walkways cause trips and can block the way out in an emergency. The talk covers layout and walkways so that staff see keeping them clear as part of their own daily routine.
Adapting the Talk
Both files are fully editable, so add your office layout and exit routes, the name of your first aider, how to report a faulty plug or cable and whether you run a clear desk policy. Update the talk description if you cover extra points.
Keeping the Training Record
File the signed record with your training records, or log the talk against each attendee in a training matrix, so you can show who has been briefed and when.
Who Is It For?
All office staff, including hybrid and part-time workers. It works at induction, after an office move or refit and as a refresher at any time.
