COSHH Assessment — Concrete Sealer (Acrylic / Polyurethane / Silane-Siloxane)
This pre-completed COSHH assessment covers concrete sealer — including solvent-borne and water-based formulations based on acrylic polymer, polyurethane or silane-siloxane chemistry, such as Polycote Stoneguard. Used for protecting and waterproofing concrete, masonry and stone surfaces in construction, civil engineering and building maintenance. Solvent-based formulations are flammable and require adequate ventilation.
What Does This COSHH Assessment Cover?
The assessment is fully completed and ready to use, covering all sections required for a complete hazardous substance risk assessment:
- Substance identification — trade name (Concrete Sealer / Polycote Stoneguard), chemical name (acrylic/polyurethane/silane-siloxane sealer; solvent-borne and water-based variants), SDS reference and physical state
- Health effects and first aid — inhalation, ingestion, skin contact and eye contact, with specific first aid for each route
- Flammable solvent and aspiration hazard — solvent-based formulations contain white spirit (flash point ~30°C); ingestion with aspiration risk; adequate ventilation and elimination of ignition sources required
- Workplace exposure limits — white spirit TWA (where present) and guidance on ventilation for confined space or large area application
- CLP hazard classification — Flammable and Irritant pictograms (solvent-based); Irritant (water-based)
- PPE requirements — including safety goggles, chemical-resistant gloves, and RPE for spray application or confined space use
- Emergency procedures — spillage response and fire precautions for solvent-based formulations
Who Is This COSHH Assessment For?
This assessment is suitable for any workplace where concrete sealer is applied, including:
- Construction and civil engineering contractors sealing new concrete
- Building maintenance and facilities management teams
- Flooring contractors applying concrete floor sealers
- Heritage and conservation contractors treating stone and masonry
- Groundworks and infrastructure maintenance operations
