One manual covers quality and environmental management together, so the ISO 9001 processes and the environmental controls share a single set of policies, records and reviews.
The IMS1 manual is supplied in fully editable MS Word format and can be easily customised and edited. The document uses pre-defined style formatting throughout, with all text in Calibri font for improved readability.
The following document labelling is included in the footer:

ISO 9001 / 14001 Integrated Management System Manual
This version of the IMS1 Integrated Management System Manual covers ISO 9001:2026 and ISO 14001:2026 in one document. Sections 1 to 5 set out the shared management system and the quality processes, and Section 6 Environmental Management carries the environmental requirements in full - commitment and compliance obligations, aspects and impacts, incident prevention, and the environmental procedures and arrangements in use.
Because both standards share one framework, environmental content also runs through the common sections. The legal compliance section has a table for environmental legislation, P-2 Environmental Policy sits alongside P-1 Quality Policy, an Environmental Representative is named in the responsibilities, and environmental objectives are set from significant aspects and compliance obligations.
What the Manual Covers
- Section 1 Integrated Management System - update log, company profile and scope, context, interaction of processes, documented information and data, and legal compliance including environmental legislation
- Section 2 Leadership, Commitment and Planning - quality and environmental policies and objectives, responsibilities including the Environmental Representative, organisational chart, management review, and risks and opportunities
- Section 3 Resource Management and Support - staff and competence, equipment and premises, and communication
- Section 4 Operational Processes - enquiries and sales, purchasing and outsourced services, control of operations, and management of change, variations and design
- Section 5 Monitoring, Evaluation and Improvement - customer satisfaction, nonconforming outputs and complaints, internal audits and continual improvement
- 6.1 Commitment to Environmental Protection - environmental commitment, compliance obligations and how compliance is evaluated, life cycle perspective, awareness and training, and environmental communication
- 6.2 Environmental Assessment - determining aspects and their significance on F-IMS60, controls, significant aspects, environmental risks, opportunities and objectives, and environmental performance monitoring
- 6.3 Environmental Incident Prevention & Management - emergency preparedness, oil and chemical storage, dealing with an incident and testing the response
- 6.4 Environmental Procedures and Arrangements - operational control, external providers and contractors, and a table of the environmental documents in use
The Appendices
- Appendix i - External File References - folders and the registers key, including the Environmental Records folder and the environmental performance register
- Appendix ii - IMS Folder Filing System - the suggested IMS folder structure, with a place for environmental records
- Appendix iii - Terms and Definitions - general terms plus environmental terms such as compliance obligations, environmental aspect and significant environmental aspect
Who Needs an ISO 9001 / 14001 Integrated Manual?
Businesses certifying to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 together, or adding environmental certification to an existing quality system, use this manual so that both standards run as one system. It suits SMEs where the same managers look after quality and the environment and want one management review, one audit programme and one set of registers rather than parallel documents.
Included in the ISO 9001 / 14001 Toolkit
This manual is part of the ISO 9001 / 14001 Toolkit, where it is supplied with the IMS1 Manual Guidance and the registers, forms, policies and procedures it refers to.
Using the Manual
Work through 1.2 first, entering the scope and any ISO 9001 requirements that do not apply, then name the IMS Lead and Environmental Representative and complete the Responsibility field in each section. Section 6 relies on F-IMS60 Environmental Aspects and Impacts Register for aspects, significance and planned responses, so complete it alongside the manual. Yellow text marks what to fill in or delete.
