Update Details: New Engineered Stone COSHH assessment and risk assessment examples added, with four related silica dust assessments updated to match.
Engineered Stone and Silica Dust
In May 2026 the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) published its first dedicated COSHH guidance for engineered stone, making clear that dry cutting is not acceptable and setting expectations around on-tool water suppression, powered respiratory protection (PAPR) and health surveillance, backed by a national inspection programme running through 2026/27.
To reflect this we have added a new pair of assessments covering engineered stone work, prepared using the F-HS5 COSHH Assessment and F-HS20 General Risk Assessment forms and supplied in MS Word format.
New Assessments;
- Engineered Stone Dust (Crystalline Silica) COSHH Assessment - respirable crystalline silica exposure and the risk of accelerated silicosis, with controls reflecting the 2026 HSE guidance including wet processing, PAPR and health surveillance
- Engineered Stone Worktop Fabrication and Fitting Risk Assessment - fabrication and fitting risks including silica dust, wet processing, respiratory protection and health surveillance requirements
Four existing assessments have also been updated. The Silica and Granite Dust COSHH assessments have refreshed controls covering wet suppression and health surveillance, and now direct engineered stone work to the dedicated new assessment. The Ceramic and Stone Tile Fixing and Kitchen, Bathroom and Bedroom Fitting risk assessments have been reworked to the current format, with the latter now covering the silica risk from engineered stone worktops.
