Smoking Policy Template
A smoking policy template protecting workers and visitors from exposure to second-hand smoke, with smoking and vaping not permitted in company buildings or vehicles and only allowed in designated outdoor areas on company premises.
The policy has Approved By and Date Approved fields and carries a Public information classification, so it can be shared with workers, clients and other interested parties.
What the Smoking Policy Covers
- No smoking - smoking of tobacco or any other substance not permitted in company buildings or vehicles
- Designated areas - smoking on company premises only in designated outdoor areas that are not enclosed
- Signs - no-smoking signs displayed where required
- Vaping - electronic cigarettes and vaping products prohibited wherever smoking is prohibited
- Purpose - reducing fire risk and protecting the health and wellbeing of workers and visitors
- Scope - all workers, site visitors and contractors on company premises
- Legislation - complying with the law on smoking in the workplace and exposure to passive smoke
- Compliance - disciplinary action for workers who do not follow the policy, and the fixed penalties anyone breaking smoking laws may face
- Support - support for smokers who want to stop
Written to Be Shared
Like every alphaZ policy, this is written as a public policy statement that can be shared openly with workers, customers, suppliers and assessors. The internal detail of how it is carried out belongs in your procedures.
Using the Policy
Add your company name and logo, check each commitment matches what your organisation does and edit any that do not, then approve and date the policy and share it with workers and anyone else who needs to see it.
Who Needs a Smoking Policy?
Any employer with premises or vehicles, and organisations that want one clear statement on smoking and vaping for workers, visitors and contractors.
Included in the ISO 45001 Toolkit
This policy is part of the ISO 45001 Toolkit and is also included in the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 toolkits and every alphaZ ISO toolkit that combines them.
Document Control
The footer carries the policy number and title, information classification, version and page numbers, and the approval fields record who approved the policy and when, so it can be controlled with the rest of your management system documents and listed on a document register such as the F-IMS20 Document Register.
Works with the Vehicle and Fire Safety Policies
The P-11 Company Vehicles Policy carries the same no-smoking and no-vaping rule for company vehicles, and the P-57 Fire Safety Policy and F-HS28 Fire Safety Risk Assessment cover fire risk on your premises, including where smoking is allowed.
